The 1" button is the smallest of the common sizes: 25.4 mm face, 33.35 mm cut circle and 22.22 mm safe area. It gets the most out of the paper: 40 per Letter sheet and 36 per A4.
With the editor's default settings: 10 mm margins and 2 mm spacing between pieces. The preview is the same sheet the print window lays out.

1 inch measurements
The cut circle is 33.35 mm. The wrap is about 3.98 mm per side, a bit less than on bigger sizes, so the background must reach the cut line with no gap.
The 22.22 mm safe area fits one strong element: an icon, a letter or a tiny logo.
Letter fits more than A4
With the editor's measurements, a Letter sheet holds 40 one-inch buttons in the hexagonal layout (35 in a grid), while A4 holds 36. Keep the hexagonal layout on Letter.
Typical uses
Mini buttons for party favors, collectible sets, tiny logos for jackets and bags. Pick high-contrast colors and big shapes; fine detail disappears at this size.
The template has the 33.35 mm cut circle in red, the visible edge in green and the safe area in blue. If the red circle doesn't measure exactly that on paper, the printer's scale is the problem, not the design.
There's a 50 mm ruler in the top margin: measure it with a real ruler before you cut the batch. If it isn't 50 mm, check that the print dialog is set to actual size (100%) and not “fit to page”.
1Print at actual size (100%), not “fit to page”.
2Measure the 50 mm ruler in the top margin.
3If it still doesn't match, open Settings and adjust the scale in the Settings & Calibration window, or download the cut test sheet.
4With paper heavier than 150 gsm, turn on “Heavy paper” in the print window: it trims the printed area by 0.5 mm so the paper doesn't jam in the press.
